The Friends Club was established as a means for individual supporters to make contributions to the efforts the organization was making, inorder to ease the lives of people in need around the world. Membership in the Club gives a person a way to impact crisis situations and support those who struggle for human rights and democracy worldwide.

The Philosophy Behind PIN’s Friends Club

At the core of People in Need is a fundamental set of beliefs: to provide relief aid and development assistance, while working to defend human rights and democratic freedom. A child born in Afghanistan, Chechnya or Central Africa cannot be blamed for the geography of his or her birth. Civilians in countries, ruled by dictators who prefer war to negotiation are guilty of nothing more than their nationality. The individual struggling to live under a totalitarian regime, who is not allowed to travel, speak freely, read, study or work freely because he or she does not support the ideas of those in power, cannot be ignored. Families devastated by floods or an earthquake cannot go on without the support of others. This is the driving philosophy behind People in Need.

Since the early 1990s, PIN has worked to provide aid and support those in need worldwide. The organization has benefited from the support of friends, volunteers, international and national foundations, and government agencies in the Czech Republic and abroad. The need for PIN’s activities is greater today than when the organization began, and the Friends Club provides the sustained support needed to affect the lives of the maximum number of people.

YOU! THE MEMBER

Members receive a bi-annual Friends Club Bulletin with information about People in Need projects, the use of the Club’s funds and planned events. This bulletin comes in both printed and electronic versions. The members also receive a bi-monthly e-mail newsletter in PDF with the latest updates.

Membership in the Friends Club takes trust on the part of the individual donor, trust which People in Need takes very seriously. By putting trust in the Friends Club, members are pledging support to the ideal that the society is only as strong as its weakest member, and those who are able should  help those less fortunate. People in Need will continue to turn this ideal into actions that truly make a difference.
