In addition to this proposal we have built or repaired 81 schools during this period. The UN consults with us regarding various education programs as well.
People in Need was founded as a humanitarian organization with the aim to provide assistance to critical areas and support compliance with human rights standards around the world.
Its founders started the first projects for helping people in need in May, 1992, at which time they were named Foundation of Lidové noviny. In February, 1994, the name was changed to Nadace Člověk v tísni při České televizi (People in need), and in April 1999 it was officially registered as a public benefit organization.
People in need has 4 main aims:
- To effectively help people in crisis and post-crisis in areas around the world
- To foster a discussion about the role played by the Czech Republic and its inhabitants in the world
- To cooperate in the establishment of a tolerant and open-minded society in which cultural, ethnic, racial and other forms of diversity are sources of enrichment, not conflict
- To mobilize public support for an active, democratically oriented foreign policy for the Czech Republic, where human rights violations are not met with mere empty words.
