General:

Grant Development Manager (GDM) strives for high quality of particularly development projects submitted by the Relief and Development Department of PIN and supports the country program teams with their formulation. GDM actively communicates with the country programs, knows their strategies well, plans and capacities and is providing support accordingly. S/he works either individually or in collaboration with PIN teams and partner organization. The GDM leads the proposal preparation process and/or supports other assigned persons in the proposal preparation process, always in line with PIN´s Relief and Development Department strategy and concerned country program strategy, as well as donor’s requirements. GDM is familiar with the program priorities of key donors and their funding requirements (especially EC, US GOV, DFID and UN). S/he represents PIN in negotiation with selected institutional donors. Results of the work shall always meet high quality standards.

Responsibilities: 

  • Develops proposal calendar, constitute and lead a team of staff in preparation and production of proposals, consequently develop either full proposals or their parts based on the agreements
  • Ensures proposed action is in compliance with the donor´s requirements and strategic priorities, as well as the priorities of People in Need
  • Coordination and communication with selected donors
  • Lead and/or support partner negotiations including teaming and pre-bid agreements
  • Coordinates required technical inputs , with other PIN units (especially Knowledge & Learning)
  • Ensures a full and timely submission of complete proposal and annexes
  • Identify external technical consultants as needed and manage consultant’s database
  • Ensures the systematic sharing of project formulation and proposal writing lessons learnt among the PIN staff
  • Ensures institutional knowledge about solicited projects and donors´ requirements and priorities (Induction training, capacity building, face-to-face consultation, debriefings)
  • Contributes to the diversification of funding from institutional donors (establishing relationships with new partners/donors/organizations, etc.)
  • Serves as the focal person for the institutional fundraising related agenda, especially of FoRS (Czech Forum for Development Cooperaton) / FDR(Concord) and Alliance2015, including participation in Working Groups
  • Performs a variety of other related duties as required

 

Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of proposal and donor funding requirements (especially EC, US GOV, DFID and UN) and the ability to apply that knowledge in preparing proposals
  • Reliable communication with institutional donors and ability to build positive relations
  • Have the ability to both coordinate different teams and participate in different team environments
  • Become familiar with PIN programs, best practices and identifying innovations
  • Proven track record of success in securing funding through competitive proposal submissions
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to perform under time pressure, have flexibility, work independently, manage multiple tasks and work effectively in fast-paced and multi-cultural environments.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for writing and an ability to formulate clear, understandable and logically structured text
  • Motivation for work in development cooperation

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience developing and managing complex proposals, presentations, and proposal preparation processes
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with an eye towards proposal messaging, themes, proposal aesthetics and content
  • Experience in the NGO sector or donors agency
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
