Desk Officer for Myanmar and Bangladesh

Desk Officer for Myanmar and Bangladesh

This job offer is not active.

People in need have been working in Myanmar since 1997, initially having supported civil society groups promoting democratic governance. After the regime change, PIN established a permanent country office in 2012, implementing humanitarian and development programs. We provide emergency relief after natural disasters (cyclones, floods) and in refugee camps across the Kachin and Rakhine states. In development programs we support the development of civil society, facilitate inter-ethnic and inter-religious dialogue, and create safe spaces for women and children.
After the outbreak of violence in Rakhine state, which drove over 800,000 Rohingya refugees across the border to neighbouring Bangladesh, we have been working to improve protection and camp management in the refugee camps around Cox’s Bazaar. Apart from protection activities we also provide material and training for shelter upgrades in preparation for the impending monsoon season.

Starting date: September/October 2018
Duration: minimum 1 year with possibility of extension
Location: Prague 2 with occasional trips to Myanmar and Bangladesh
