Description
People in Need (PIN) is a Czech nonprofit, non-governmental organization that implements humanitarian relief and development projects, educational programs, and human rights programs in crisis regions all over the world. PINs Relief and Development Department operates in twenty countries, in the following areas: Emergency Response, Good Governance, Social Protection and Inclusion, Resilience and Nutrition Security, Sustainable Livelihoods and Environment, and Education and Skills Development. More information can be found on PINs website: https://www.clovekvtisni.cz/en/what-we-do/humanitarian-aid-and-developmentPIN was awarded funding by the Czech Development Agency to implement a project in 2018 aimed at improving the capacity of staff from Czech NGOs to utilize market systems / private sector development approaches, with a particular focus on low-income countries. A component of this project is the recruitment of an external expert to provide advisory and training support.
Objective and Scope
The objective of the consultancy is to enhance the staff/organizational capacities of Czech organisations to utilize MSD approaches. The consultant will be responsible for the facilitation of an introductory training, and the provision of technical backstopping/troubleshooting support with PIN and other Czech organizations ongoing implementation of MSD-related projects. The 4-day introductory training should be tailored to the needs and existing experience of Czech development actors, and is expected to cover the following main topics:
- Introduction to the rationale and principles of the market systems development approach
- Tools and frameworks to inform inclusive MSD approaches and intervention design
- Practical examples/best practices on the use of MSD in low-income countries (from the perspective of improving sustainability/impact/efficiency)
- M&E for systemic change & adaptive programming
Location - Remote support with one trip to Prague to facilitate a training
Schedule and Duration - Approx. 15-18 working days, from June – November 2018, including a 4-day training in Prague (date tbd), and days of follow-up advisory support as part of a mentorship program PIN will be implementing

Expected Deliverables
- Preparation and sharing of training materials/methodology in advance of the training (in consultation with PINs MSD advisor)
- Facilitation of 4-day practical training, including distribution of relevant tools and materials and a brief training report
- Follow-up coaching and advisory support with an MSD mentorship program and technical troubleshooting with MSD implementation
- Final report with recommendations on how PIN can further build its organizational/staff capacities with MSD approaches going forward
1. Selection criteria
Essential areas of expertise:a) Understanding of current best practices in the application of MSD approaches
b) Practical experience with implementation of MSD projects in low-income contexts
c) Practical experience providing training, remote coaching, and organizational strengthening with MSD
