People in Need Human Rights Egypt

Egypt

Egyptian President Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi, who took office in June 2014, leads a country that remains in a deepening human rights crisis where civil society faces sharp repression.

Egyptian state institutions have systematically banned protests and restricted freedom of expression and assembly. Local authorities target non-governmental organisations, independent activists and journalists detaining many of them in the process. Human rights defenders have been maltreated, charged with offences under draconian laws,  subjected to  judicial requests to implement  severe travel restrictions and faced a freeze on personal assets.

People in Need works with non-governmental organisations in Egypt to promote human rights. Recently PIN has been primarily devoted in the training of lawyers in the region.
