Located at the former Langhans Gallery at 37 Vodičkova street (next to Wenceslas Square) in Prague, the People in Need Centre is a place for inspiration, meetings, and discussion for anyone concerned about the world of today. The Centre was formally opened in May 2012.

About us

Open ◾️ Mon—Fri, 11—20 ◾️ Sat—Sun, 13—19

The café is an intrinsic part of the Centre. Thanks to its central location, it is an ideal place for both business meetings and friendly gatherings, as well as a refuge for students waiting for their next lecture. There is of course free Wi-Fi.

The café is open Monday to Friday. In case the main hall is used for events, private or public, visitors may make use of the bar area only. The café serves Mama Coffee, a Fair Trade brand which we believe you will enjoy just as much as the programme of the Centre.

History

The unique space of the Langhans Gallery was used by its owner Zuzana Meisner-Wismer for almost a decade to display exhibitions of modern and contemporary photography. She was thus following the footsteps of her great-grandfather Jan Langhans, who ran a renowned photographic studio in the years 1880–1948 in the adjacent building.

In 2012, Ms Meisner-Wismer announced her decision to discontinue all exhibition activities. People in Need seized this opportunity, as the former gallery offered an ideal space for presenting our diverse programmes for the public. We envisioned a mutli-functional centre where people would come to meet, be inspired, and join in discussions.

The People in Need Centre aspires to provide a varied and open programme focusing on issues such as tolerance, solidarity, humanitarian and development aid, and freedom and democracy in both a local and a global context. It preserves the legacy of the space by arranging photographic exhibitions on themes pertaining to our activities.
