People in Need Social Integration

Social Integration

We have been providing social services since 1999. At that time, we introduced a concept of social counselling under the heading Field Work, whose main purpose was to help people from socially deprived areas. Gradually, the scope of our activities had been expanding when finally Social Integration Programmes originated in 2006.

Currently, the programme workers are active in 60 towns of the Czech Republic as well as in Slovakia. The whole team consists of around 200 employees comprising field social workers, counsellors, educational consultants, coordinators and approximately 200 volunteers.

Activities of our workers can be divided into several phases. They are striving to nip the progressive social decline of individuals or households in the bud. As soon as the situation is stabilized, the next task is to find a solution of the problems that brought the social deprivation. The ultimate goal for the future is to reach such a state when the family, having developed sufficient competences, will be able to solve their problems already without our assistance.

We pay great attention to children and their education. In pre-school clubs we prepare the youngest ones for school enrolment. As soon as they start attending primary school, our volunteers assist them with improving their school results. Afterwards, we help them in finding both ways to further progress and employment. We devoted our effort to children also in their leisure time. Parents take an active part and they are an integral part of all the activities. We offer help to students and teachers as well. We organize training courses for pedagogues all around the Czech Republic to introduce innovative teaching methods, which have proved successful abroad. We promote principles of inclusive education at all the levels of our activities, thus preventing the absurd segregation of some children at the very start of their life.

Direct assistance to families remains the cornerstone of our work. Field social workers focus on elimination of negative impacts living in the environment of social exclusion brings about. These are related especially to inadequate housing, long-term unemployment and the issue of being heavily indebted. Besides all of this, we are also striving to initiate system changes. Within the campaigns ‘Law Favours the Smart’ and ‘The Index of Ethical Lending’, we have been working on eliminating the practices that have recently led to severe indebtedness within the Czech society. We always draw on the experiences and findings we have gained while working directly in the field.
