People in Need has been operating in the Karlovy Vary Region since 2001, the year the organisation started providing field social work in Sokolov. Later the services provided expanded by adding more support programmes for socially excluded individuals and families. In 2006, an independent regional office was set up in Sokolov which began to manage operations in other towns and municipalities. At this moment we offer our services throughout the whole Karlovy Vary and the Sokolov areas; you may find us mainly in Karlovy Vary, Sokolov, Nejdek, Ostrov, Chodov, Žlutice, Valeč, Rotava and Jáchymov.

Contact centres operate in the places listed above, providing effective help to people with various social problems that make their everyday life more difficult. Apart from that, we are close to people that we help and we also maintain regular contact with the local authorities, schools etc.

Supporting children

We dedicate a large part of our energy to children and young people. We run three pre-school clubs (Sokolov, Nejdek, Chodov) for the smallest, which prepare them for a successful elementary school entry. For those who already attend school and need support for various reasons, we offer individual or group tutoring. And for the oldest we have career guidance. Apart from that we also run a low-threshold club for children and young people in Kraslice, which is a safe space not only for spending free time, but also for solving personal issues or simply for doing homework for school.

Supporting adults

Helping people who have found themselves in difficult situations and can’t get out of it themselves is the core of our work. Under our individual consultation service, we offer help to people looking for housing and also employment counselling, help in communication with authorities, etc. Our family consultation service offers comprehensive services that may help solve relationship issues, distressing life situations or organise free-time activities for families with children. To help people escape the debt trap, we offer debt advice. We concentrate on helping crime victims and under our resocialisation programmes we try to support the successful return to society for people leaving correctional facilities.
