Job location: Prague or home-based with frequent field visits (30%)

Starting date: ASAP

Duration: 12 months with expected extension

Salary: as per PIN’s salary scales

Main task:

  • To develop the quality and scale of PIN’s programming in the sector of Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL).

Main focus:

  • Strengthen PIN Country Programs and employees’ capacity to design and effectively implement FSL interventions
  • Improve PIN Country Programs’ use of market analyses in FSL interventions
  • Focus on and promote cash-based modalities wherever feasible

 

Main responsibilities:
  • Support PIN Country Programs in developing effective and relevant market-based FSL interventions including funding proposals
  • Mentor and develop the technical skills of PIN’s Program and Project Managers in the FSL sector including conducting trainings on core topics (food security and market assessments in emergencies to select between cash/voucher/agriculture/livelihood assistance, supporting livelihoods and market systems in emergency/early recovery contexts, cash-based assistance etc.) and regular coaching support via Skype calls
  • Assist Country Teams with development and delivery of new training modules
  • Identify effective approaches, key lessons learnt and most useful resources related to FSL and ensure that relevant PIN staff are aware of them and use them
  • Expand the existing Nutrition Security and Sustainable Livelihoods strategies to include core indicators and quality standards to improve quality monitoring of emergency Food Security and Livelihoods interventions
  • Develop tools and resources and promote existing standards to assist with FSL program design, implementation and M&E (including standardising the tools and indicators being used to monitor capacity building interventions across the Country Programs, utilising PIN’s IndiKit and results-based M&E framework)
  • Promote and advocate for cash-based modalities of assistance within the FSL sector wherever feasible
  • Lead the design, implementation and analysis of initial assessments, evaluate the ongoing and completed interventions and share the results, highlighting good practices and lessons learned
  • Assist with launching new emergency interventions, both in current or new PIN countries of operation
  • Ensure networking with other organisations working in the FSL sector and pursue partnership opportunities
  • Represent PIN at the Global Food Security cluster and promote PIN participation at FSL clusters on the country level
  • Cooperate closely with PIN head-office emergency team and the other emergency-oriented advisors
  • Work with technical sector advisors focused on agriculture, nutrition security and market systems development.

 

Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor or post-graduate degree in development, humanitarian affairs, or economics and 3+ years of experience working in a humanitarian context including protracted crises
  • At least 3 years’ experience with proposal development for major donors
  • Sound understanding and experience with the application of key FSL standards including the Sphere Standards
  • Solid understanding of the FSL sector including key donors, coordination system, implementing agencies and other stakeholders
  • Technical knowledge and experience with cash-based modalities
  • Experience conducting market analyses to inform the design of emergency food security programming and early recovery programming
  • Substantial experience with training design and delivery
  • Willingness to travel to the countries of PIN’s operation (up to 4 months annually)
  • Fluent English
