We are one of the largest non-profit organizations in Central and Eastern Europe. We focus on humanitarian aid, development cooperation, promotion of human rights as well as on development education and awareness rising. We work in over 22 countries all over and have more than 1,500 employees.

For our Relief and Development Department, we are looking for internal Climate Change Advisor experienced in preparation/ implementation of climate change programmes/ projects in developing countries as well as with knowledge of national/ regional climate change strategies. The main task will be to support the quality and scale of PIN’s climate change mitigation and adaptation programming in selected developing countries as well as to support our climate change related awareness rising and advocacy activities in the Czech Republic.

 

MAIN FOCUS:

  • designing and supporting PIN’s interventions which aim to reduce greenhouse gases emissions and use of carbon sinks in agriculture system, WASH and energy production
  • supporting PIN in development of external communication and advocacy about climate change in the Czech Republic
  • seeking for funding opportunities for interventions related with climate change mitigation and adaptation, incl. carbon financing

 

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES

  • support PIN country programs in developing relevant interventions and funding proposals
  • provide PIN country programs with the technical support, expertise and tools required for an effective implementation of the ongoing interventions and help to build up capacity across the organization on how to integrate climate change into development programming
  • provide PIN Communication and Advocacy Department with the technical expertise how to set up external communication about climate change with the respect to the organizational focus and based on the national climate change debates
  • support implementation of awareness rising activities of international climate change project
  • support PIN’s advocacy efforts in the area of climate change
  • in coordination with media team, support development of communication/ informational materials for broad public
  • evaluate the ongoing and completed interventions and share the results, highlighting good practices and lessons learned
  • identify existing PIN programing with potential to access carbon financing such as GCF, NAMA, golden standard, REDD+ and support development of business models towards
  • ensure networking with organizations working on climate change mitigation and pursue potential partnership opportunities (in CZ as well as abroad), coordinate with Alliance2015 joint carbon financing initiatives

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATION

  • extensive knowledge of global warming, adaptation strategies and/or mitigation programmes in the context of developing countries as well as in the context of Czech Republic
  • educated to degree level in environmental studies, geography, politics or equivalent working experience in these areas
  • familiarity with the main climate change mitigation actors (donors, implementing agencies) and global and national strategies
  • familiarity with the current situation and discourse on climate change in the Czech Republic
  • experience with implementing climate change mitigation interventions (especially in the context of developing countries)
  • strong research, writing and analytical skills to produce technical reports or scientific papers
  • at least 3 years’ experience with project proposal development for major donors
  • experience with markets-based dissemination of energy saving technologies is a strong advantage
  • ability to communicate the topic comprehensively to different target groups (public, politicians)
  • fluent Czech and English
  • willingness to travel to the countries of PIN’s operation (1-3 months per year)
