Climate Resilience Team Lead
Location: Home-based or in Prague or London office
Travel requirements: Maximum 20% travel per year
PIN has been working with climate change-vulnerable populations for many years with a strong grassroots approach, supporting local actors to improve food systems, enhance livelihoods and access to quality basic services. PIN’s three core pillars of work are Climate Resilience, Emergency Response & Recovery, Civil Society & Inclusive Governance. The Team Lead will lead the growth of PIN’s international portfolio of programmes working with a team of sectoral global advisors covering livelihoods, natural resource management, agriculture, water and sanitation, as well as coordinating with the global advisors who work within the other two pillars. The Team Lead will work alongside PIN’s Institutional Fundraising Unit on international donor engagement and positioning, building international partnerships to support PIN’s Country Offices to develop new programmes.
The focus of programming is primarily supporting communities with adaptation to climate change whilst maintaining green growth principles. This will involve understanding the real situation on the ground and community priorities, coordinating internal and external technical expertise to co-create solutions to enhance resilience to floods, droughts and other extreme weather events. This may involve early warning systems, disaster risk reduction approaches, natural resource and landscape management as well as livelihoods and social safety net support. It requires an ability to map and analyse the interconnections of national policies, programmes and key stakeholders, and be able to understand and critique their implementation at the community and individual level. Ultimately ensuring that PIN’s climate change work is designed to strengthen existing systems, and advocate for change when necessary.
The advisor is line managed by the Head of the Technical Advisory Unit within the Knowledge and Learning Department (KLD).
Duties & Responsibilities
International Climate Change Programmes
- Leads the implementation of PIN’s global Climate Resilience pillar strategy
- Develops and implements donor positioning strategies in coordination with relevant global Technical Advisors, Institutional Fundraising Advisors and Country Programmes
- Advocacy and networking: representing PIN at international fora and at HQ-level meetings
- Works with PIN’s Communication and Advocacy Department to ensure technically-strong communication pieces and advocacy messages
- Leads an enthusiastic team of global Advisors and coordinates support to PIN’s Country Programmes
- Ensures Country Programmes are provided with holistic and coordinated support from HQ on minimising the environmental impact of our programmes, ensuring donor compliance and coordinating with other Advisors and HQ support departments
- Supports Country Programmes to build partnerships with national governments, climate change actors and activists
- Explores and pursues new funding opportunities including carbon financing
- Builds global partnerships and supports existing partnership initiatives (e.g. Alliance2015)
- Supports the sourcing of external technical support to PIN’s Country Programmes where needed
Coordination with KLD members and other HQ staff
- Participates in regular meetings of the Knowledge and Learning Department (KLD) and contributes to the agenda.
- Maintains and contributes to KLD products (Knowledge and Learning Centre, Indikit, etc) on Climate Change.
- Follows agreed KLD priorities, annual plan, and administrative instructions.
- Minimum 5 years of programme management experience
- Relevant experience in international contexts
- Experience in developing and managing partnerships
- Technical knowledge in at least one area related to climate change programming: carbon financing; market systems development and livelihoods support; flood risk management; natural resource/watershed management and prevention of land degradation; social safety nets; food security; emergency response to natural disasters; clean/renewable energy
- Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation skills
- Strong capacity in leading proposal development
- Strong communication, facilitation and presentation skills
- Fluency in English both written and verbal

- Willingness to travel to PIN RDD’s Country Programmes
