People in Need is one of the largest non-profit organizations in Central and Eastern Europe active in humanitarian and development aid, human rights and social inclusion. In 2017, more than 1300 employees worked in our Humanitarian and Development Section in 22 countries (Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe). Our growing team in Prague (with turnover of more than 38 million EUR per year) is looking for a new colleague to become Desk Officer for Ethiopia country programme. The main programmes of PIN in Ethiopia are a) education and skills development, b) environment, livelihoods and agriculture, c) access to water and sanitation, d) humanitarian aid. The overall annual budget of Ethiopia country programme is about 6 mil EUR, it has around 200 local staff and minimum of expatriates.

Location: Prague, Czech Republic with frequent trips Ethiopia (once in three months for a month)

Job overview

You will become a part of the African team of Relief and Development Department of PIN in Prague.  As a Desk Officer (country program’s coordinator), you will be the closest partner of the country program (CP) and, together with its leadership, you will be responsible for its proper management and development. Together with the CP's management, you will be responsible for implementation of country programme strategy including ensuring close follow up on programmes and its quality, and ensuring our obligations towards donors are met (DFID, ECHO, OCHA, CZDA, EC etc.). You will participate in the staffing of the mission and you will be (in cooperation with CP management) responsible for its balanced economic management. For your colleagues at CP level, you will be the main HQ contact, when coordinating the agenda, supporting of other PIN departments and connecting them with the program. You will participate in the creation of security rules, build relationships with partners, experts and donors in the Czech Republic and abroad, and last, but not least, you will control that CP is in accordance with the internal rules and principles of the organization.

For this position we consider important:

  • Experience with a project management and team leadership in the non-profit environment and abroad
  • At least 3 years of practical experience with development and/or humanitarian programming
  • Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with different groups of people and respect their different cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to strengthen relationships with partners and donors in the Czech Republic and abroad
  • Experience with proposal development, reporting, monitoring and evaluation procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of English, other languages like Czech, French, Portugal, Spanish are an advantage
  • Ability to organize your work independently and approach things positively even in situations where job requests are rapidly developing
  • Experience with budgets, support and supervision in methodologies and evaluations
  • Proactivity, analytical thinking, and ability to quickly learn the organization’s internal processes
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to Ethiopia on frequent basis
