People in Need (PIN) is an international, non-profit organization established in early 1990s in the Czech Republic. Since then, PIN has grown to be the biggest organization of its kind in post-communist Europe and currently provides humanitarian and development assistance in over 20 countries worldwide.

PIN has been active in Iraq since 2003. Over the past years, PIN has been providing emergency assistance to conflict affected people in newly accessible areas of Ninewa governorate in Shelter/NFI, WASH and Education sectors. Currently, PIN is expanding its geographical coverage to south-central Iraq and sectoral coverage onto Livelihoods.

PIN has been focusing on provision of quality education and psychosocial support to IDP and returnee/host communities affected by the conflict in Northern Iraq since summer 2015. Through the projects funded from ECHO, IHPF, UNICEF, UNESCO and Czech and Slovak MFA, PIN has been able to reach over 30,000 children and 1,800 teachers just in 2017. The activities include rehabilitation of schools, training of teachers on PSS and pedagogy skills including post-training supervision, Back-to-school campaigns, distribution of scholastic materials, school-based structured PSS activities for children, accelerated learning programme for children who missed months of education and support to existing PTAs.

PIN is seeking an Education Programme Manager to oversee education projects implemented Ninewa, Salahdin, Kirkuk and Anbar governorates. The Education Programme Manager will report to Country Director.

Location: Erbil with frequent travels to other governorates in Iraq including Ninewa, Salahdin, Anbar, Kirkuk and Baghdad

Starting date: March 2018

Duration: 12 months (with the possibility extension)

The main tasks are:
  • Overall management and supervision of the education projects in Iraq;
  • Coordination of activities with other stakeholders and humanitarian actors;
  • Responsibility for the projects’ progress, spending plans and reporting;
  • Managing activities in line with PIN’s projects, PIN Iraq Education Programme Strategy and sectorial guidelines;
  • Developing and maintaining a database of projects’ outputs, activity tracking, training evaluation and achieved results to provide information for both internal and external reporting;
  • Responsibility for recruitment, training and development of the capacities of project staff;
  • Evaluation and quality control of projects;
  • Through close monitoring of the context, developing approaches and activities ensuring promotion of the Do No Harm principle;
  • Developing new project proposals and actively liaise with donors;
  • Active participation in Education clusters and other relevant meetings;
  • Mapping education actors and existing responses, incl. identification of potential implementing partners;
  • Contribution to identification of trends in conditions/standards and donor priorities in education sector;
  • Coordination will all other Programme Managers to ensure synergies and complementarities between the programmes. 
Suitable candidates should possess:

 

  • Experience of working within the education sector for a humanitarian organization abroad;
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian context in Iraq;
  • Experience of working in complex and volatile contexts;
  • Experience of managing staff;
  • Experience in budget management, reporting, and donor relations;
  • Strong critical analysis and problem solving skills;
  • Fluency in English - both written and verbal. Knowledge of Arabic is advantageous.
PIN offers:
