About People in Need:

People in Need (PIN) is an international non-profit organization providing humanitarian and development assistance in over 20 countries worldwide. Formed in 1992 in the Czech Republic, PIN has grown to be the biggest organization of its kind in post-communist Europe, providing relief where it is needed, and empowering civil society at home and abroad.

PIN draws on extensive past experiences and lessons learned across many emergency and post emergency contexts to design, implement and monitor quality programming; and has been active in Syria since 2012, across Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH, Education, and Capacity Building sectors, with a current annual turnover of approximately US$40m in cash and in-kind. Current and past donors include DFID, ECHO, EC, USAID-OFDA, USAID-FFP, FAO, WFP, UNICEF, SDC, German MFA, and the Czech MFA. PIN employs over 300 local staff and 15 ex-patriate Senior Management staff across Syria and Iraq, and implements programming through 7 offices in Syria.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide adequate support to Programme Managers in developing and monitoring project budgets (portfolio of approximately 26 mil USD for North-West Syria funded by international donors: EC, ECHO, DFID, WFP, OCHA, OFDA, FFP, WHH/Auswärtiges Amt, SDC, UNICEF, Czech MoFA and CzDA)
  • Role of a DFID Consortium Finance Coordinator (3-year grant of 35mil GBP with 4 INGO members: PIN (lead agency), INSO, Concern and ACTED)
  • Analyze financial data, ensure efficiency and economy
  • Update overall budget for a respective region, support individual departments with budgetary issues
  • Ensure all financial internal as well as external reporting to donors and local authorities are within agreed timeframes
  • Responsible for establishing sufficient capacities to guarantee accounting data quality as required by PIN internal rules and legislation (local as well as Czech)
  • Supervise bank accounts and cash flow management
  • Ensure compliance of the processes and documentation with the local legal and administrative measures, with donors’ regulations and PIN internal rules
  • Set up financial procedures and internal control mechanisms, contribute to guidelines and manuals, develop new tools
  • Ensure project and other teams are adequately trained in PIN financial and administrative procedures
  • Supervise adequate internal control system
  • Facilitate internal, external and donor audits
  • Participate at local partners’ assessments and their financial management
  • Provide line management to the finance teams in Turkey and North-West Syria

Main requirements:

  • University degree preferably in Finance or related field
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Proven relevant work experience in development and/or humanitarian context,
  • Ability to manage a large financial turnover and mitigate risks in a systematic manner
  • Experience with requirements of key humanitarian donors highly welcomed
  • Experience with team management and supervision
  • Strong ability and willingness to transfer knowledge
  • Working experience with an accounting and economic software
  • Analytical skills
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Great communication skills
