About People in Need

People in Need (PIN) is an international, non-profit organization providing humanitarian and development assistance in over 20 countries worldwide. Formed in 1992 in the Czech Republic, PIN has grown to be the biggest organization of its kind in post-communist Europe, providing relief where it is needed, and empowering civil society at home and abroad.

PIN draws on extensive past experiences and lessons learned across many emergency and post emergency contexts to design, implement and monitor quality programming; and has been active in Syria since 2012, across Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH, Education, and Capacity Building sectors, with a current annual turnover of approximately US$40m in cash and in-kind. Current and past donors include DFID, ECHO, EC, USAID-OFDA, FAO, WFP, SDC, German MFA, and the Czech MFA. PIN employs over 300 local staff and 15 ex-patriate Senior Management staff across Syria and Iraq, and implements programming through 7 offices in Syria.

Main responsibilities:

  • Management and supervision of the projects implemented in Syria, managing activities and program in line with PIN’s livelihood strategy and mission goals;
  • Responsible for Livelihood projects’ implementation, progress, budget spending planning and management and timely achievement of the project’s milestones;
  • Organizing, assess and analyze the situation on the ground with aim to design most appropriate program implementation and strategy;
  • Providing technical support and deliver training to the program team;
  • Project report writing and contributing to proposal development;
  • Closely coordinating with M&E to ensure the best possible monitoring and control over managed program in Syria;
  • Responsible for recruitment, training and development of the capacities of staff in program;
  • Ensuring that linkages to other PIN programs implemented in the area are established and program is implemented in coordinated way;
  • Ensuring compliance with donors and PIN rules;
  • Participating actively in Sectorial coordination meeting and fora (early recovery WG);
  • Ensuring coordination with local and international stakeholders and partners;
    • Carrying out Needs assessments
    • Design of Agricultural and Livelihoods projects for potential interested donors
    • Searching for new topics in Livelihood and Agriculture in NES

Suitable candidates for this position should possess:

  • Experience of working within livelihood sector for a humanitarian and development organization;
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian context in Syria;
  • Livelihood and agriculture expertise;
  • Experience of working in complex and volatile contexts;
    • Professional experience in a managerial position
  • Experience in budget management;
  • Strong critical analysis and problem solving skills;
  • Fluent English both spoken and written (Arabic is an advantage).
