People in Need (PIN) is a Czech NGO working in relief and development. See more at www.peopleineed.cz. Emergency unit at PIN HQ in Prague is advisory, support and partly an implementation department responsible for continuous improvement and strengthening of the quality and relevance of PIN global emergency response. The Emergency unit focuses particularly on the set up of the emergency response in new countries; supports or the emergency preparedness and response at all PIN country programs; coordinates technical support of the existing emergency programs; provides capacity building; supervises networking and other related activities. The Emergency unit HQ team consists of four full time dedicated positions and collaborates closely with the team of PIN desk officers, PIN Rapid deployment unit, PIN security & safety department and PIN technical advisors under the Knowledge & learning department.

Start-up date: ASAP

Duration: 18 month with desirable extension

Refers to: Head of emergency programs

Location: PIN head office in Prague) with frequent short-term field trips (approx 40%)

Salary: as per the PIN salary scales.

 

Key responsibilities:

1. Coordination of the emergency response

    • Set-up of the early response both after sudden-onset disasters and in protracted crises and conflicts (usually up to 3 months)
    • Management and coordination of the PIN Rapid deployment unit
    • Follow-up of the development and forecasting of humanitarian crises worldwide and of the potential for PIN engagement
    • Support of the coordination with Alliance2015 and other humanitarian partners
    • Support of the set-up of potential response in Czech Republic (flood response / recovery programs)

2. Support activities and networking

    • Preparation and support for the implementation of the PIN emergency strategy
    • Support of humanitarian assessments, preparation of strategies and project proposals
    • Providing support for consistent quality of the project designs and compliance with humanitarian donors’ requirements (particularly ECHO, DFID, OFDA, UN and others)
    • Provision of the consultancy support for the existing country programs
    • Close collaboration with PIN emergency oriented advisors under the Knowledge & learning unit
    • In urgent cases provision of gap-filling for the ongoing emergency programs
    • Cultivation and strengthening of the relationships with the Alliance2015 members, other NGO humanitarian partners, donors, global clusters and networks
    • Follow-up of humanitarian trends and innovations worldwide and their integration into PIN good practice
    • Support of PIN humanitarian advocacy efforts

3. Capacity building and emergency preparedness

    • Training and capacity building of PIN staff engaged in the emergency response
    • Regular update of PIN emergency manual and other related documents and policies
    • Provision of staff induction
    • Support for the emergency preparedness planning at the PIN country programs

 

Main requirements:

 

  • relevant multi-year and multi-country experience with humanitarian programming
  • understanding of the funding mechanisms and good proposal writing skills
  • experience with humanitarian coordination mechanisms
  • familiarity with the PCM, field data collection and basic understanding of humanitarian logistics
  • familiarity with the conflicts settings and generic security protocols
  • reliable personality and dedicated team spirit
  • flexibility and willingness to travel
  • excellent spoken and written English, other languages an advantage
  • work permit in Czechia
