Background

PIN UK was recently established by People In Need CZ in 2018, an international NGO with its HQ in Prague, Czech Republic (www.peopleinneed.net). PIN itself has grown over the past 30 years from being a small civil society organisation to become a trusted partner of institutional donors including the European Commission, UK FCDO and USAID. It now has a huge portfolio of civil-society orientated programming, partnering with and supporting CSOs in over 30 countries around the world. Our programmatic pillars are Emergency Response & Recovery, Climate Resilience and Civil Society & Inclusive Governance.

Position summary

We are recruiting a Programmes Director with experience of leading the development and implementation of impactful international programmes. This position is a global role, covering many country contexts across Europe, Asia and Africa, and will join PIN UK’s small but growing team.

As PIN UK’s Programmes Director you will supervise the operational implementation of programmes implemented in partnership with PIN CZ and other organisations as well as support strategic development and contribute your expertise to our www.civilsocietynow.org initiative. You will significantly contribute to the PIN UK’s commitment to quality programming by identifying and mobilizing resources, maintaining donor relations and leading the design of new programs, in addition to contributing to strategic planning, advancing impact measurement, and representing PIN in internal and external fora.

The Programmes Director reports to PIN UK’s Executive Director and has three main areas of work:

Share: Strengthen the Civil Society Now product to offer valuable content for international grassroots/civil society organisations aimed at enabling them to access international funding directly (50%)

  • Develop resources for CSN that are requested by grassroots and national CSOs on the themes of resource mobilization and grant management.
  • Support the in-country CSN Coordinators to deliver live content on resource mobilization and management using peer-to-peer learning formats
  • Support the in-country CSN Coordinators and Country Office management team to engage donors for e.g. collaborating on content, attending drop-in sessions, providing funding for the platform
  • Coordinate development of content with CSN Global Product Manager and relevant PIN CZ HQ units

Innovate: Lead the development of new initiatives, collaborate with partners and international country offices (30%)

  • Collaborate with our University partner and Artificial Intelligence specialists to develop the prototype of an AI-powered function as part of the CSN Product
  • Support the evaluation of the prototype, testing the model before organizing target user testing.
  • Ensure a risk management protocol is in place around the use of AI within the CSN Product
  • Stay up to date on the broader debate around furthering “localization”, other relevant initiatives and how the CSN Product can add value.
  • Explore the possibility of fundraising products (e.g. crowd-source funding) for CSN members
  • Respond to business development opportunities for CSN and other programme initiatives in coordination with PIN CZ Country Offices.

Supervise: Ensure that the delivery of programmes implemented by PIN UK together with PIN CZ and partners is up to the standards and satisfaction of our donors and programme participants (20%)

  • Support international teams implementing projects for PIN UK to follow principles of programme quality as well as Do No Harm in coordination with PIN CZ HQ units
  • Manage donor reporting processes
  • Help ensure donor and Charity Commission compliance in collaboration with PIN UK colleagues

For this position, we are looking for someone:

  • Passionate about locally-led development and the importance of grassroots organisations
  • At least 5-years´experience of project management/business development within a humanitarian and/or development organisation;
  • Experienced in leading proposals for the European Commission/ECHO, UN and other international donors
  • Experienced in donor reporting for the European Commission and other international donors
  • Excellent communication skills: presenting and facilitating
  • Fluent written and spoken English
